JUDGE VICTOR M. CAMPILONGO (Ret.)
Since his retirement from the San Francisco Superior Court in 1990, Judge Campilongo has been very actively engaged in ADR on a full-time basis. He has conducted thousands of mediations and arbitrations, and has served as Special Master. He has particular expertise in the areas of personal injury, contracts, probate, libel and slander, medical and legal malpractice, Jones Act, product and premises liability, commercial and residential real property, construction defects, and partnership dissolutions. Judge Campilongo has also handled maters dealing with employment, labor, discrimination, sexual harassment and landlord/tenant disputes. Judge Campilongo is well known and respected by his peers and both sides of the bar, for his excellent settlement technique and highly developed "people skills". He "reads" the litigants well and applies his vast knowledge and experience to the case at hand, enabling him to get to the "heart of the matter". ON THE BENCH Judge Campilongo served in every department on the Superior Court. He settled thousands of cases by conducting a Settlement Department for several years and was a member of the Court's Three-Judge Complex Litigation Team. As a sitting judge, he heard cases in virtually every substantive area of the law, including class actions. He served on the S.F. Superior Court from 1972 to 1990, and the Municipal Court from 1970 to 1972. He also served as Master Calendar Judge of the Criminal Division for two years, commencing in 1983, and served as Presiding Judge of the Superior Court in 1985 & 1986. In 1988, Judge Campilongo was appointed to the Appellate Division of the Superior Court by chief Justice Lucas and was elevated to Presiding Judge of the Division in 1989. LAW PRACTICE Prior to his judicial career, Judge Campilongo was in private practice in San Francisco. From 1959 to 1962, he was a partner in Campilongo & Harte, and from 1963 to 1970, with Davis, Campilongo & Schmidt, in a general practice.
